Meet Chris Atkins

This isn't the first time I'm posting photos of WWE-hopeful Chris Atkins. The first picture was emailed to me weeks ago by longtime contributor and a good friend of this blog David.  I can't recall what post Atkins' photo was included in, but it shows him in a yellow WWE shirt doing security duty at a NXT event. Well, Atkins has since been "promoted;" David says he cut a promo in the ring two shows this weekend. That means we can expect to see him wrestling any day now. What else do we know about Atkins? Well, for one, he's from Australia and did some wrestling there. Atkins was reportedly recruited by the WWE while working out in a Gold's Gym. You can follow him on Instagram here or follow him on Twitter here. I can't wait for him to make his NXT debut.

  1. I'll have to see him in wrestling attire. He looks promising.

There are quite a few gems Down Under: Chris Vice, Damian Slater, Mikey Nicholls, Danger Paul, Elliot Sexton + New Zealand's Jay White and James Raideen. Unfortunately, videos tend to be hard to come by (though you might have more luck with some wrestlers than others).

    1. Don't forget Mike Petersen, Blakestone, Mat Rogers, and AJ Istria! Found quite a few of James Raideen's Japan matches in DailyMotion, btw. Anon.

    4. Sometimes it helps me when I am trawling the web to Google such parameters as "wrestling.de", substituting for "wrestling" anything from a specific man's name to more general wants, even, the word "wrestling" itself and for ".de" or ".co.de" or some other country code. Good results on occasion, nil on others. That last foto makes up for the selfies, but I second the motion that we get some pix in wrestling gear before WWE turns Atkins into one of those gargoyle-like clones resembling the "body builder."

Apologies for the two deleted posts--they happened when I tried to use what turned out to be a banned character--namely a European quotation mark, which I cannot show you because because I cannot use it w/o itself's deleting itself. Sounds like Sir Humphrey in "Yes, Prime Minister."

  2. He is super beautiful. I hope he has a long and sweaty career, full of submissions.

  3. Sometimes you're watching a match and you see someone in the background, security, referee, a fan, and you think: I'd rather see him in he ring than the men wrestling. Probably be more interesting. Well, here's a fine example of that.

  4. Chris is a wonderful specimen of a beautiful man!

But what is that ugly disfigured creature next to Chris in the 3rd photo down from the top ?

    1. I believe that is what a world-class bodybuilder looks like these days. I think that that business has become quite bizarre.

    2. Bodybuilders intrigue me. Sometimes I'm put off, but not this guy for some reason (maybe because I haven't seen his shirt off). Wonder who he is

    3. I think that's Rich Piana

    4. Thanks for the tip CZH! Fascinating reading about that guy. Although his proportions are extreme, he's not a bad looking guy (this pic with his face in the shadows doesn't do him justice)

    5. " ... not a bad looking guy ... "

      Are you serious ?????

That "thing" is a deformed gremlin !!! The frame is stretched out of any semblance of human proportion. A riot of cheap tattoos looks like someone vomited used ink all over it's body. It has so abused his body with exercise that even it's swollen face barely passes as human.

Eli, we obviously disagree on this one!

    6. If you just google some pics of his face, you'd see that this pic is a bad one of him. I'm obviously not talking about his body when talking about his looks

      Thanks for guarding the bridge

    7. I did Google Images of Rich Piana. BTW, he doesn't wrestle, though he apparently competes in arm-wrestling.

As the saying goes, there are bodybuilders and there are bodybuilders. His older pics show a guy with a good physique and a handsome face. I certainly could have envisioned that man in the ring. However, he's become the victim of the post-Schwarzenegger obsession with super-massiveness. Definitely not my type. I've always preferred the men who concentrate on proportion and symmetry, the aesthetic type.

I grew up in the 50s and 60s with comic book superheroes and Steve Reeves as mythical demigods and all that. My ideal wrestler's physique owes a lot to those influences. I don't care for the unfit look. A decent bodybuilder fills out the role of my wrestling fantasy very adequately.

    8. I always say to each his own, but I have to agree on the aesthetics. It is a reason I prefer wrestlers like Atkins and Tino Sabatelli. Piana's face seems to have suffered distortions caused by steriod use, esp. the lips. Anon.

  6. Bruno, I was trying to find a picture of this guy you reportedly posted. All I can find is some pics of Dustin Mueller who also did security in yellow shirts who you posted on a year ago now:

You're sure you posted Chris Atkins and not this guy?

  7. I was looking into this guy's background. He's Australian, born in Melbourne, about 27 years old. He's been involved in the sport since he was 19. In Oz, he trained at PCW and worked with New Aussie Wrestling. Any of our distant contacts know of any photos or videos after 2008?
