UK wrestler Johnny Yearsley held several weightlifting titles before going pro in the early 1960s. This well-muscled athlete was one of the most hated villains in UK pro wrestling at the time.
I can't put my finger on it, but I love the old photographs of the Adonises of years gone by. Perhaps it's the sense of kinship they give me with the kinksters of long ago. Perhaps it's a reminder of a "more innocent" time--though that explanation has never been convincing to me. The second shot (of wrestlers) is terrific--moody and dramatic.
Same here, Joe. In my case, I think it's because I grew up watching wrestling matches on TV in the 1960s. When I see pictures like the ones above, I'm reminded of my early fascination with pro wrestling...at one point, I even dreamt of becoming a wrestler. Ahhh, the innocence of youth.
