Wrestlers really are inherently beautiful people. That last photo though ... amazing, but it must've been touched up at least with color if it's that old. I wonder what the original photo looked like
Concur that the winner, with 4 woofs out of a possible 5, is Karl Pospischil. I wonder how he fared in the imminent Bolshevik Revolution. I fancy that had he come to America, Ellis Island would have altered his name to Carl Popsickle. Maybe not. TT
According to the web site of the colorizer, Pospischil was Czech, the photographer was Russian, so I expect he survived the revolution, whether he made it through WWI and II is another story. Anon.: Karl Pospischil, Bohemia (height 178 cm, weight 98 kg), Participant of the World Championship in French Wrestling , 1912. Photo of the famous photographer Karl Bulla, Russia.
Yeah, love Roderick Strong, but I feel like his matches are hardly ever posted to YouTube anymore. I know that even when he was doing ROH every so often there would be a few vids of his indie matches that would surface on there but lately there's been nothing.
Love his pics, but his matches not so much. Not certain why, Strong is an excellent, exciting wrestler, but I suppose it is the match length. Given the "punishment" that each wrestler metes out, by about 15 min. even MY ability to suspend disbelief fades. Anon.
Wanna see a real Russian pro wrestler from this century (and I don't mean those gimmicky ones the WWE or even the indie circuit trots out during periods of Cold War-ish tensions)? See here:
JM is right--excellent match, if shorter than I would want. Фредди Мартелло - Иван Громов says Freddy Martello - Ivan Gromov, so it seems that at least one of them is probably not Russian. I can't say much for the yellow and green gear, but the other man, the heel, rates 5 woofs out of a possible 5. Thanks for the URL, JM. TT
I guess it is appropriate here to put in a plug for my favorite Russian wrestlers. Yes, Gromov is one, also, with a vid for each: Sergei or Serge White https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFDIRE1fHc0
Vladimir Kulakov (who unfortunately has taken to wearing a form-fitting long-sleaved shirt. Duh, but love this guy. He's like an Energizer bunny pitbull) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICC80-AnJrk
Агнар or Agnar (a masked wrestler) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzOeuG7yJE8
There's another guy, Lokomotiv, I think, who has toned up a lot recently too. Anon.
Anonymous is right to commend Lokomotiv to us. IMHO he rates 5 woofs out of 5, and he is a говядинакекс, right up our Bruno's alley.
JM is also on the mark when he mentions that there are woofs to be seen by Googling in foreign languages, especially those using the Cyrillic alphabet. I haven't tried Greek yet--for indolence and the fear that I will be subjected to massive doses of olive oil a la Turkish wrestling. Those long pants, 0 woofs.
I checked,Loko's "real" name is Ivan Markov. In recent months (hard to tell with Russian indy feds) has taken to wearing black square-cut trunks, an improvement over his old attire. One can usually find the Cyrillic version of the names with the first search, and then cut and paste it for the next. Anon.
Yeah, bulked up Ivan "Lokomotiv" Markov is really doing it for me lately. Until fairly recently he was a tag-team partner of Ivan Gromov but they lost a match and predictably Gromov attacked his partner. I know they've already wrestled each other in the past, but I'd really like to see Gromov take on this more muscular Lokomotiv. I keep waiting for that video. Unfortunately Gromov has been MIA for several months.
TT, I doubt searching in the Greek would turn up anything. Too small a country (and also too um... broke). Also, I know there are people who like that Turkish-style wrestling but I've always found it... well, gross and unappealing.
Luckily most prime beefcake is in English-speaking contries: USA, Canada, UK, Australia. After that probably Germany and France. Not a big fan of Mexican promotions (although Jindrak is still languishing there) and I've never gotten Japan, either, although they've produced some okay matches and wrestlers. South Africa is obscure and I haven't really followed wrestling there but thought I should include them just because they gave us Jason Steele (featured on this blog):
I am glad that some guys mentioned Russian wrestlers here. I just discovered НФР Реслинг last month. Иван Громов is in a nice physique lately. Try it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Dns38joft8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdvkKyAnQe4

ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention that it was colorized.

Brilliant research, Anonymous!
DeleteAw, shucks, A. Actually, with a name like Karl Pospischil, it is very easy to Google the info. Anon.
DeleteGotta go with Roderick Strong, who has long been on my top three list. Face or heel, he's hot, hot, and hot again.
ReplyDeleteDitto. He is a handsome man, and that is a great photo of him. Anon.

Ooops! Freddy Martello is actually Russian, according to Cagematch. Apologies to JM. Martello is Freddy Machete on Cagematch. TT
DeleteYes, the heel (Ivan Gromov) is definitely top-tier. I could care less about the other one, lol.
DeleteThere are quite a few matches of his on YouTube and other steaming sites but you have to search for his name in the Russian.

You should surf the 'net for photos of Estonian wrestler Georg Lurich (1876-1920) who posed for many beefcake photos, even nude.
ReplyDeleteA page full of beautiful, lusty men - each one sexier than the last. And lots of clean skin!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bruno!
The Big O is my top woofer!
ReplyDeleteI do always love me some Big O meat. He is always so fuckable. I'll also mention Chris Ridgeway looking particularly hot in this portrait.
