Troy Story

Here's the subject of yesterday's Caption This! post, Cole Karter, now going by Troy Donovan in WWE NXT. The WWE officially changed Karter 's name to Troy Donovan last April 5th and they've also created a heel persona for him alongside Tony D'Angelo and Channing Lorenzo (fka Channing Lauren, fka Jake Tucker). Karter/Donovan and Lauren/Lorenzo started out in NXT as "themselves," but have since been "rebranded" as Mafia characters with the so-called "Don of NXT" (arguably the leader of the team or stable) Tony D'Angelo (fka Joe Ariola, the undefeated NCAA champion). Donovan is too covered up these days, unlike the time he wrestled as Cole Dallas for adult-video company Underground Wrestling (see last pic).

    1. Even there he would have greatly benefitted from an all-over tan.

  2. Thanks, Bruno.
Having followed Cole in both his wrestling and real-life personas since his independent debut, he really IS a nice, small-town boy from West Virginia. Even the WWE t-shirted promo photo makes that obvious. WWE never knows when it has gold. My last hope it that they won't make him a buffoon, like they did Theory. Anon.

  3. McMahon never saw a young talent he couldn't destroy by "rebranding."

    1. Sad, but true. Seriously, though, did they dye the kid's hair black? Anon.
