Beards! They're everywhere in profession wrestling (well, almost). There was a time when beards were worn only by heels (to connote wildness or a sinister, savage nature), but nowadays, even baby faces are growing their facial hair. I guess it's because a beard or even a five o'clock shadow makes you look more masculine and tough. Some wrestlers who don't grow out their facial hair tend to look boyish and wholesome, even when they're not (see Roderick Strong or Eddie Edwards). Here are two wrestlers who grew beards after they gave their wrestling personas a reboot. First up, Matt Sydal (WWE's Evan Bourne).
Here's what he looked like before...
Next is British wrestler Brandon T (aka Brendon Fraser) who used to be part of WWE's developmental territory FCW (now called NXT) where he was called Kenneth Cameron and who now wrestles for TNA Impact as Bram.
This is what he looked like back in the UK when he was wrestling under the names Brandon T, Brendon Fraser, and Tom Savage.
So what do you think of Matt and Brandon T's beards and moustaches? Leave your comments in the Comments section below.
Keep it neat, guys. Matt does and still looks great. Brandon/Bram is doing a wildman character, so the bushy tangle makes sense. In reality he uses the beard to purposely COVER UP his good looks.
ReplyDeleteAm I crazy or does Brandon/Bram look like Kevin Von Erich in that last picture....
ReplyDeleteHe sure does and looks a lot better then.
DeleteMatt looks better without the beard, babyface and ripe for the taking.
ReplyDeleteEddie Edwards is *not* wholesome? I'm curious when he's been anything but the underdog hero. Roddy of course is a whole nother story lol
Not a fan of Bram either way. At least now
Wasn't Edwards a heel before?
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I've never noticed Edwards much; Davey always stole his spotlight for me. But if you know of matches where he plays evil, I'd be intrigued
DeleteI reckon Bram looked heaps better as Brandon T. Less hair emphasises the body more. However, the hairy, bearded look suits the Bram character.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the beard does anything for Evan Bourne at all.
Bram - so much better without the beard back in his UK days
