Old School Mini-Post: Tommy Jammer

I had never heard of late 1980s-early 1990s wrestler Tommy Jammer until I came across one of his matches on YouTube. According to his Wikipedia entry, Jammere his in-ring debut with American Wrestling Association in 1989. When AWA folded in 1990, Jammer wrestled for Minneapolis-based Pro Wrestling America as well as other independent promotions until he retired in1994. It's very difficult to find good-quality images of this 6'2"/240 lb. (188cm/109kg) former football player. Even his matches on YouTube look like they're from VHS tapes that fans made at home (hence the poor quality of my screenshots below). If anyone knows where to source good pics of Jammer, please leave a link or message below.

  1. Thanks for this great post. Yes, in his day Tommy Jammer was very exciting and part of those great talents in AWA who did not seem to go any further: Ricky Rice, Derek Dukes, John Paul. I miss the old AWA. Even Tom Zenk went there after WWF and before WCW. Do not think there is much out there with Tommy Jammer.

    1. How could I have forgotten about Ricky Rice?

    2. Glad to see Jammer recognized. I discovered him in much the same way you did. Ricky Rice, otoh, was around for a long time and hot stuff in various promotions, but eventually ended up jobbing in WWF, where I first saw him. Anon.

  2. While we are commenting on “Old School,” it would be great to see a mini-post about Steve Simpson. Steve was a talent in the mid 80”s to early 90”s in WCCW and then Global. He was from South Africa with a “Tarzan” look. Very nice guy and he often teamed with the Von Erich’s and his brother Shaun. Very hot in the taste of that time.

    1. To add to that, hard to believe Kenny Kendall has never mad an appearance here. I hold that Kendall, along with Ron Cumberledge, was one of the most beautiful jobbers ever to step into a wrestling ring. Physique and face were just perfect. See this match vs Paul Roma, where there is a quick strength/double-biceps posing duel. Anon.
