The Model Life With Antaios

I think we all know it's pretty difficult to make a living solely as an independent professional wrestler.  Many indie wrestlers need day jobs to be able to do what they love when they're not working. Some are firefighters, personal trainers, bouncers, bit actors, and yes, even exotic dancers. Take Antaios. The ex-commando is not only a wrestler with British company Lucha Britannia (a kind of artsy, cabaret-style underground theater experience), he's also an actor and self-described fetish model.

Meet Antaios

In Greek mythology, Antaios (Latin spelling Antaeus) was "a Libyan giant who forced travellers passing though his land to compete with him in a wrestling match. He overwhelmed them all and used their skulls to roof the temple of his father Poseidon. Antaios was the son of Gaia of the Earth and it was from her that he drew his invincible strength. When Herakles (Hercules) encountered him in the ring, Athene (Athena) advised him to lift the giant up in the contest. He did so and weakening the monster, was able to crush his ribs and kill him. The Greek word antaios which lies behind his name means "set against"or "hostile." (Source: www.theoi.com)
Our Antaios is not from Greece, though. He's a former Royal Marines commando from England who's not just a wrestler, but a successful entrepreneur, too. Antaios has been wrestling with Lucha Britannia, which is part-cabaret, part-wrestling promotion (strictly for adults, I might add) for about 3 years now. One of the most amazing things about this man is that he's had open heart surgery not just once, but twice. Did that stop him from working out and wrestling? Nope. The guy is an inspiration to us all. Here's Antaios in a clip from a match circa 2013.
