I don't watch WWE shows like Raw or Smackdown. To me, these shows have lost their appeal. The venues are just too big, the crowd too mainstream, the "storylines" trite and stale. But I do check out the social media accounts of some WWE Superstars like Fandango aka Johnny Curtis. I'm pretty sure his posts (like that of the other wrestlers in WWE) are managed/controlled by a committee somewhere in WWE headquarters. He can post innocuous images of his dog and some aspects of his private life, but you won't see anything racy or controversial. Here are some images from his Instagram account which promote his WWE character and storylines. The Cosplay looks with tag team partner Tyler Breeze are like tropes from gay porn scenarios. In many of these images, Fandango/Curtis is typically shirtless or baring some male cleavage while Breeze is covered up or in drag. Make of that what you will.

With pro wrestling it all comes down to money...so, I'd not make too much of their antics...done to attract audience, either in the ring or on tv...nothing more. And, given WWE's track record with homophobia, I'd be doubly suspicious.
ReplyDeleteI don't know for sure of course but Tyler seems to look like he addresses Johnny as "Sir".
ReplyDeleteI don't get the appeal of "Tyler Breeze"... Johnny, on the other hand, I truly get.
