Easy Reader

Here's a wrestling gimmick I can get behind. At one point in his almost twenty year career, Canadian wrestler Supernatural Nelson Creed brought a book he wrote to his matches; sometimes, he also made his entrance wearing a t-shirt that read "Shut Up and Read." As The Times Colonist said about him in a 2014 write-up, "Creed likes to punish his opponents by reading from his book "What Would Shakespeare Say? (read the article here)."  I think it's nice to see someone promote literacy and Shakespeare, even if it's done in an arrogant and condescending way (Creed also happens to be an English teacher). Creed also wrote a book about his journey in professional wrestling titled "You're Gonna Hurt Yourself". Read a review for this 2106 memoir here. And find out more about the 6'2", 230 pound 38 year old veteran here and here.

Creed's first book is titled What Would Shakespeare Say?

Here's an older photo of Creed.

  1. Dear teacher, my english paper will be late as I got distracted by watching videos of you wrestling. Also, would it be possible for you to teach the class all oiled up and wearing your wrestling trunks?

  3. A number of wrestlers are or were teachers; including Adam Cole and Stryker. Would have been interesting to be in the situation Joel describes.
Creed has aged well. Lots and lots of his matches on Youtube, the earliest, approaching the buffness of the last pic is from 10 years ago. Anon.

    1. Oops, I meant Adam Page, not Cole. Oh, well, at least I didn't make it seem like he was dating his mother, as in the Diaz post. Anon.

    2. I got so excited about Creed that I commented immediately and didn't check to see that you'd already mentioned this match! Yes, it's one of my favorites.

I remember discovering it and being optimistic that this would be the first of many more great (and well-filmed) matches of his to come. But most of the forthcoming videos were poor quality, either/or in terms of video/camerawork or the matches themselves.

    3. No problem. Having the match here twice means more people will get to appreciate it.
I have "discovered" quite a few wrestlers who have never posted another match, I am not sure which is more disappointing, no vids or vids so unfocused and distant from the action that you can't see anything. Anon.

  4. I've been in love with him ever since I saw him in this match: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsTTKFz5gvM (I can't believe it's been 10 years -- the video looks kinda old and dated now but it felt very shiny and new back in 2007, lol -- time flies)

But, I have to say, for someone who's pushing 40, he's still got it. And the teaching thing just makes him sexier. *drool*

Unfortunately, it's difficult finding his matches on YouTube, especially those in recent years. I don't think the promotion uploads them regularly.

  5. So cool. I wonder if his books were assigned reading in his class.

There was a PBS production of Taming of the Shrew as a commedia dell'arte in which Petrucchio throw Kate around like a wrestler. He would have been well cast!

    1. That production was by American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. I saw the remount but unfortunately missed the original with the young juicy barechested Marc Singer as Petrucchio. Ah missed opportunities.

  6. Can't wait to check out those vids. I was surprised to see the young pic of Davey since I assumed this was a new guy since I hadn't seen him before
