Muscle Monday : Thor vs Thor Showdown

If you're a wrestler with flowing blonde hair and lots of muscles, you're probably going to go the Thor route in terms of imagery and wardrobe. The God of Thunder in Norse mythology/Marvel comic book superhero has been the go-to character of several Scandi-looking, musclebound wrestlers even before Australian actor Chris Hemsworth stepped into his boots for a series of Marvel movies. Two wrestlers who've taken on the Thor persona are Alexander Hammerstone (USA) and Justin Sysum (Great Britain). I think it's okay to have at least one "Thor" wrestling in each continent, but if there could only be one, who should it be? Here are 5 shots each of Hammerstone and Sysum. You be the judge.

  1. The best part is that no one can coerce me into making a choice!

But if we could find other Thor-inspired wrestlers, wouldn't it be amusing to have a World Tournament of Thor Gimmicks and Gear?

  2. I looked for other Thors at Cagemathch. There were a surprising number. However, most very definitely lacked a godlike physique. The chief exception is sadly deceased. Another brilliant concept down the drain!

    1. Is it the "Mighty Thor" from Chicage (Windy City Wrestling) that has died? He was pretty impressive, physique-wise (Anon.):

    2. No. I was actually thinking of a wrestler with the alternate gimmicks of Spiro and Craig Bateman.

    3. That should be Cameron, not Craig. An article with a friend's reaction to his death:

    4. How sad. I found an obit. for another wrestler I was following, "The Ringer" Mickey Vaughn, who committed suicide, even though there were a lot of concerned friends and family members. For Cameron (Bates) I found some pics of him as Spiro. He would have been a worthy addition to this page and the list of Thors. Sometimes it is so difficult to imagine what could have been so terrible for someone so seemingly healthy and beautiful--just about everything our culture values--to take drugs or commit suicide. 3. A similar problem with "Hammer" gimmicks. The best I could find for active wrestlers is Daniel Pruehs when he went by Jack Hammer. Again, the few with suitable musculatures are either deceased or inactive.

  4. Neither strikes me as particularly in accord to my fantasy Thor. Divorced from Thor, I think I choose Sysum over Hammersmith as performers.

  5. That last pic of Sysum makes me vote in his favor.
Rik Ragnarok is also good to look at, he may still be active.
There is also a current wrestler called Odinson, he is big a powerful, has a big hammer tattooed in his cleavage, but is not Sysum/Hammerstone comic-book godlike. Anon.

  6. I do notice that Sysum seems to be the most comfortable with himself. Hammerstone appears tense, and probably would benefit from some posing lessons. The first pic of him with his lower torso jutting out does not do him justice.

  7. I'm thinking it would be nice to see them side by side as a tag team :)
