One of NXT's new faces may be familiar to wrestling fans and readers of this blog. Robert "Bobby" Roode has been with TNT Impact for years, but has since transitioned to the WWE Universe. The other new face featured here is former amateur wrestler Adrian Jaoude. Jaoude is 6 foot 2 and weighs 220 pounds. According to
wrestlinginc.com, Jaoude was named "Best Brazilian Wrestler" for the senior category in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 and 2012. I'm a bit confused about his nationality; I think he was born in Beirut, Lebanon, but now calls Brazil his home country (needs verification). Thanks to longtime contributor/good friend of this blog David for taking these great shots of Roode and Jaoude at a recent NXT event.

DeleteThe Abou-Jouade are an ancient Christian family. The following quote is from a family history which begins in the late 13th C.
ReplyDelete"Today, Abou Jaoudes live in several villages in Lebanon: Deir El Harf, Falougha, Hamana, Aabadiya, Kob Elias, Maska, Al Ghaba, Jourat Al Ballout, Bkennaya, Jal El Dib, Antelias, Zalka, Amariyah, Bouchrieh, Fiyadiya, Bikfaya, Ain Saadeh, Jezzine, Haret Hreik, Bteddine, Ain Mwafak, Beirut, and suburbs… They also live in Syria, Jordan, Ari Houran and Sult, and in foreign countries, as mentioned in the family tree."
There is a wadi in Lebanon named for them.
An account of the Lebanese in Brazil and how in the 80s and 90s some returned to Lebanon but retain their Brazilianess, including Portuguese. An Abou-Jouade banker from Beirut founded a friendship society.

What fantastic and interesting research on the part of TdeC. Thanks--I enjoyed reading it through. One question arises--your URL

seems to apply not to 2016 but to 2004. Or am I just befuddled?
TT
There's an Antoine Jaoude who is 39 years old and there's Adrian (the subject of this post) who is probably in his mid-20s. Two different men.
DeleteThey're brothers. So it wasn't any befuddlement. I was a bit careless. I was so excited to find articles about a Jaoude wrestler whose first name began with an A that I sort of rushed to post. But it's still of value for seeing the family involvement in combat sports. Antoine is also an MMA fighter. In fact he was a trainer for the Brazilian team in Rio. Also, the history mentions a famous 18th C. Wrestler in the extended family.
DeleteUnfortunately I can't Share Images here. There are a number of them together including one in which they're, modestly, grappling in the nude, like the ancients.
This was an interesting adventure to investigate his background. Intriguing information which I wouldn't have known otherwise.
Bobby Roode is always one hot slab of beef. However, I will be picky and say I liked his TNA look just before he left better. Not quite sure, but the extra hair on top I think is throwing me. Before he was just straight up navy seal commando and with some top hair that military edge seems gone now.
ReplyDeleteI've liked Bobby Roode since he was a secondary member of team canada way back when. He's even better with age. I'm surprised he went to NXT, but I'm glad. It's a better showcase for a lot of these guys.
