Made In Russia

There's been a lot of talk about Russian wrestlers in the Comments section from two days ago and I have to admit, I was not familiar with any of the names some of you mentioned : Ivan Gromov, Ivan Markov, Vladimir Kulakov. I tried to look for images of these wrestlers but it can be pretty difficult because a lot of the information coming out of Russian wrestling sites are written in Cyrillic. However, I lucked out by finding a few shots which I'll share below. First off, the wrestler some of you brought up: Ivan Gromov (at least I hope it's Gromov in all these pics, hard to tell because I'm not familiar with him).

Next, it's another Ivan. Ivan Morkov also called Lokomotiv.

The two Ivans. Gromov is on the left, Markov, the right.
This is Vladmir Kulakov. Watch him here.
Unidentified

And last but not the least, Vulkan (or maybe it's Vulcan). I'm not sure if he still wrestles; it would be a shame if he retired. If there are any sites you know of with more pics of these and other Russian beefcake wrestlers, please share them with us in the Comments section below. Thanks! (or Bolshoe Spasibo as they say in Russia.)

  1. Thanks so much for this post! I've been meaning to go check out what people have been talking about in that thread. It sounds like there are even more hot guys so hopefully more posts about Russian or Greek guys possibly in foreign alphabets to come.

  2. Gromov definitely impresses!

Folks, I suggest that if you have Images to Share, send a hem to bruno by e-mail (address in his Profile) and let him post them rather than putting htmls in these Comments.

I don't know whether there are any pro wrestling sites in Greek, but there are many sites in that tongue and you can Search in the alphabet..

    1. Personally I prefer it when people post URLs in COMMENTS. It takes a load of work off of Bruno, too. True: this time we have a hailstorm of URLs, but they are handy for wet, cold weather use. And it continues to be damp & cold here in Charm City, where management turned the condo heat back on last night. With all these URL's to check out, who needs heat today? Thanks to one and all for the suggestions. TT

The unidentified wrestler is Ivan Markov. Those are the new black short trunks he wears, with red detailing. You can compare the upper arm tattoo. He seems to have added to the forearm. Anon.

  13. Was never sure whether the name was Vulkan, i.e., Vulcan, the Roman god, or it means volcano. It is my impression that he has not been wrestling recently, but as I pointed out in the other thread, it is difficult to maintain the chronology of matches (e.g., their version of Throwback Thursday) unless the poster makes the date explicit. In any case, these are the Youtube channels I've been monitoring for a few years. There are so many to weed through I can't say I've found the time to separate the wheat from the chaff. Anon.

Lots of matches being posted, as we speak, and they go back quite a few years:

And this from the НФР Youtube web site, which seems to be the most active Russian promotion (a match between Serge White and Kulakov):

    1. When I went through myriad Russian matches a few years ago, I think I remember coming to the conclusion that he was probably Volcano. I don't keep mementos of where I've dipped a toe into the surf, as it were, so I can't go back and check.

Strangely I love the Russian, French, German, and Japanese matches because I love to listen to the commentators and imagine I can tell what they are saying. It is even more amusing when they shout the names of holds in plain English in the middle of a usual nonsense narrative in their native language.TT

As you can read in this discussion Mortals going to Valinor did not become immortal. They eventually die though there lives might exceed that of their race who remain in Middle Earth, even those of the greatest longetivity. Frodo may have exceeded Bilbo's record of 131 when HE departed into the West, but in the end the Gift of Manwë was his. Frodo is dead!

Volcano very strong, powerful and hardy restler with the enormous talent. The volcano was occupied by bodibildingom since 2000 to reslinga. Specifically, in 2000 young volcano was introduced to reslingom, having for the first time seen it on the television, afterward seen on the television volcano placed to itself the purpose to become professional restlerom. Not long reflecting volcano, it is sent toward the President NFR and after only the week volcano is trained in the preparatory school They NFR.Debyut volcano it occurred on January 28, 2005 by battle against Loki. Young of restler showed present battle the experienced fighter of Loki. On February 21 NFR appointed battle Torrero against the volcano. Hall meets the appeared volcano by ovations. 17. Righteous man does not maintain and surrenders. Volcano cannot hide its happiness, the second victory in NFR against this restlera outstanding preparation before the main show of the spring “of Resliada of 2005” where the volcano will fight with most experienced American restlera - Tony Roy. Volcano is intensely trained indeed by Tony Roy the star of reslinga in the past. And here comes the main show of spring, KTSR dawn is filled to overflowing. Resliada passes very vividly, spectators to enthusiasm. Shaw approaches the match of volcano against Tony Roy. Volcano perceives small nervousness. Battle begins from Tony Roy's jokes but volcano it acts very decisively and rigidly which for Tony Roy is necessary for some time they will defend, battle occurs very interestingly, very intensely but volcano it loses battle. Volcano in the very near future gives interview, indicating that to lose Tony Roy was not offensive to t k it were beaten with the star of reslinga. After loss “the volcano” placed to itself purpose, in no matter by what not it began to select the belt of the champion of NFR in the current possessor “of sledge hammer”. On July 16 in it was represented this chance, but sledge hammer he said at the show that in order to fight for the belt it should today defeat it in the match without the title to konu. Shaw approaches the main match of evening, volcano against the sledge hammer, where it will be decided, will volcano fight for the belt of the champion of NFR or not. Volcano used entire its power and energy in order to attain victory, but forces were not equal – to the aid to sledge hammer to the shock for the spectators arrived large righteous man, but then press itself! To the gain to aspirant arrived the gladiator, but forces were not equal, both volcano and gladiator were devastated. Nevertheless, match ended with the victory of volcano on the disqualification, and at the following show us waits legitimate match for the title of the champion of NFR!

  25. Apparently, every wrestler in the NFR (НФР) has a personal song. This is Ivan's, with my best attempt at a coherent translation:

    Sent from my iPad

    The Son of Distant Thunder

There resides in Domodedovo one Ivan Gromov,
The crowd is turned on when he appears in the ring
He bounces on the ropes with a menacing look
His foe is terrified, his foe is in his grip
Gromov--the master artist of muscular might,
He subdues the very souls of his fans
His buff arms are pumped, his shoulders are broad
All wrestlers dread every bout with him!

[the title was added by me, playing on the meaning of grom, distant thunder
